Chapter 4 - Homework
Chapter 4 - Homework (Bat Willis)
1. Why is it important to use more than one
label or tag to describe the same piece of information?
By labeling and tagging
digital information in several descriptions helps us identify, organize and
retrieve the information in an easier way, especially if we use the same short
keywords.
2. Explain the difference between organizing
digital information using a hierarchy structure vs. a
non-hierarchy structure.
Hierarchy Structure –
places, arranges and sorts/classifies each detail and piece/part in a
relationship to the others whether it is bellow or above, levels or files
within the folders that are stored on the hard drive.
Non-Hierarchy Structure
– places and arranges the information and material to be classified in an
unlimited and various ways by using tags or labels to define the items.
It is harder to find and
locate the items that have and share the same tag because you have to search
for the item with in the tag.
3. What is Flickr and how are people using
it for social media?
Flickr enables us to upload,
share & arrange our digital photos and videos with friends, family &
acquaintances (generally with whom ever we’d like to do so). Once photos are
stored they can be organized according to date, event, location and other criteria.
In order to do all this
and use Flickr’s services, we must first create an account. It is free (basic)
and you must have an existing Yahoo account.
I think it is rather
important to create privacy settings when opening a new account (same as in Facebook).
We can add and exchange
notes, remarks comments & assign tags next to the photos and that way we
sort of have a written dialog.
By adding tags, it
allows others to view and locate the shared photos.
We can build a community
of people with special interest for example. Yet, it should not be used for advertising and promotion purposes.
Photos can be added to
your blogs but if they are owned by others, you must first get permission to
publish them - used for social media.
4. Do you
see yourself using Flickr?
I doubt it very much
whether I’ll use Flickr since I believe that there are other apps that are much
easier. I have been using my Mac I-Photo and intend to upgrade it shortly.
Once pictures are
uploaded, they can also be shared via Facebook or Picasa.
5. What did you
learn from the guest lecture?
I was fascinated by Judy’s ability to
promote herself & her business with various social networking tools and
find the way to be “marketable” and “compatible” with clients and colleagues in her business / field.
I also realized how time consuming it
is, the necessity to keep updating and be updated yourself with several and
different techniques. Additionally, to focus on additional fields/interests that might be
effective and helpful and beneficial in the near and far future to you and your business.
